Keeping it "Real" with Library Continuing Education
About a week ago, my GSLIS program sponsored a career day program. Thinking at first that the intended audience was current students, (I've had my degree for three plus years), I hesitated before I signed up, but sign up I did, and boy, am I glad! The guest speakers had such diverse backgrounds and they shared stories both good and bad of how they got where they did. The paths they found themselves on were at times unexpected. I found that encouraging because sometimes we all underestimate our skills and our contributions and where they can take us. Although not officially a "continuing education program" I gained valuable new perspective that I have taken back with me to the job. As a side note, I wasn't the only one from my graduating class in attendance. It was nice to have the chance to catch up with colleagues.
