I'm a planner, so I like preparing a sketch of what I'm going to do for my story times each week. If you're like me, then you'll appreciate this quick tip for assembling a surefire story time you can can be confident will wow your audience:
You'll need: card stock cards, a glue stick, scissors, and a metal cardholder box.
Assemble all your favorite stretchers, fingerplays, and songs and type each one up so it will fit on an index card. (Those old card catalog cards work well for this if your library still has them.) Glue stick them on the cards and then arrange your collection the way it makes most sense to you. It could be alphabetical or divided into categories; it's your choice. Then put them into a metal cardholder box, label the tabs that come with the box with your system, and you have all your story time tools at your fingertips.
Now go out there and perform!
